Category: , , , , , , , , , , , By SirToasty

About:

Foster The People is a Indie Pop band from L.A, California. Their group is composed of 3 people, Mark Foster who does the vocals, keyboards, piano, and other various instruments, Cubbie Fink who does the Bass and Backup vocals, and Mark Pontius who uses drum and percussion. The genre of Foster The People's music is various, and contains elements of Indie Rock, Pop, Dance, and even Neo-Psychedlic.

They released only one Studio Album, and that's what I will be reviewing for today.

Major Releases:

Torches(2011)

First Impressions:

If you listen to the radio, chances are you heard of "Pumped Up Kicks", a single from Foster The People that suddenly became extremely successful. The cover art for the CD was designed by Japayork, Mark's friend. From what I see, it show's a bunch of monsters holding torches and one with a flashlight. The style and the way this cover was drawn is very interesting, and the little details details you can barely see on the monsters are well done.

The Review:

The album has 10 songs, is 38:27 in time, and 88.3 MB in size

1.Helena Beat(4:36)- This song has a interesting opening sound that is hard to describe, but it good. At around :56 you hear the vocals kick in. Judging by the lyrics, finding the true meaning for this song, and various theory's can be one. One is that, its about love and recovering. Another is that, its about drugs and emptiness feel it gives. Third, it could be about suicide because of the line "I took a sip of something poison but I'll hold on tight". The song has pretty dark lyrics, but it's so upbeat and happy sounding...-8/10

2.Pumped Up Kicks(4:00)-Foster the people's surprise sleeper hit. Just like Helena Beat, this song has a very upbeat and happy sound to it, but this song has very, very twisted and dark lyrics and meaning(s) behind it. If you go look up the lyrics, it sounds like something out of a horror movie. The song is about being in the mind of a psychotic kid and bringing awareness. Another meaning people make out of this is that it's about it's about Columbine. While that it's not directly about Columbine, it's about a kid who plans on doing a shooting rampage, which is similar to what happened at Columbine High School. This song is a perfect example something that is happy and upbeat but has a dark lyrical atmosphere to it -8.4/10

3.Call It What You Want(4:01)-A very happy, upbeat song. It's about having various atitudes, and judging people. 7/10

4.Don't Stop(Color on the Walls)(2:56)-The happiest, most upbeat, and also the shortest song on the entire album. Judging from the lyrics, this song is about being young. This song is pretty catchy. 7.3/10

5.Waste(3:26)-The song is more on the slower side. It's about a man who is in love, but is suffering from some sort of mental illness. 7.8/10

6.I Would Do Anything For You(3:35)-The song is about falling in love. A song that is very bright and happy in lyrics goes from being slow to mildly-fast, then slow again. Very catchy song. 8/10

7.Houdini(3:24)-This song is very happy and upbeat. I believe it's about being a musician and "focusing on your ability". Being a highlight on the album, this is one of the best songs by Foster The People. 8.3/10

8.Life On the Nickel(3:36)-Has a very interesting opening. The song is about a homeless man or a drug addict who is trying to hustle for money, even though on the album it sounds like he is saying "awesome". A pretty happy song, but it has sort of a sad and down atmosphere to it, or maybe it's just me. -8.2/10

9.Miss You(3:36)-I find it amazing how this has the same length as Life On the Nickel. This song is probably the saddest and least happy song on the album . I believe it's about a man who killed himself with drugs, and he is reflecting on his past, or wanting to see someone before he dies. -7.9/10

10.Warrant(5:22)-The ending to the album starts with this heavenly chanting or humming sound...kind of like something you would hear from a Final Fantasy or Zelda game. These drums then kick in and then the bass, then a piano. The song sounds pretty dramatic(despite being happy). I believe the album is about the downside of being famous. This is a very well made song, and also, in my opinion the best song on the album. -8.5/10

Conclusions:

Torches is a very happy, upbeat sounding album that is similar to that of MGMT. Some of the songs have great meaning and a fantastic beat and rhythm to it, however some of the lyrics can be too repetitive. The large variety of instruments and genre's in this album is very interesting. The dark lyrics in happy songs like "Pumped Up Kicks" is also well made. This is a good album, I would definitely recommend someone to give it a try, if you havn't.

Highlights:

1.Helena Beat
2.Pumped Up Kicks
7.Houdini
8.Life On the Nickel
10.Warrant

Final Score: 7.9

Why people hate Justin Bieber

Category: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , By SirToasty
Justin Bieber,looking rather feminine

Justin Bieber's image in the media has caused much hate and love all across the world. Mentioning his name is like throwing gasoline into a fire. I don't know which side is more violent and sadistic, the haters or his stupid fangirls. Go to Google and you can find some crazy rumors and hoaxs about him.

Justin Bieber haters will do whatever they can and exploit every little detail and joke about the teenage popstar as much as they can. Such insults is by making fun of his small and girly structure and face, his high pitched voice, etc. The most common insult is that he sounds/looks like a girl and he is gay. Justin Bieber fan-girls are absolutely batshit insane, and I really don't understand them, nor can I describe how utterly stupid they are. Here are a few good examples, their pretty self-explanatory:

People making fun of his girly voice and looks is just the SURFACE of what Justin Bieber haters truly despise about the boy. In this post, I'm going to describe why we hate him so much.

1.His success story: If there was anyone in the world who could just become famous all of a sudden, it would be Justin. He was just an average Youtuber who uploads videos of him singing covers. Yet somehow, that kid somehow winded up dominating Hollywood. I can see why Fangirls can see this as an inspiration, however, there are plenty, PLENTY of other singers on Youtube who are far more talented. All those Indipendent bands seeking attention and singers with jaw-dropping voices were turned down and this kid with just a decent to somewhat poor voice gets into Hollywood. This could lead to hatred or jealously to the Pop star.

2.His music: I listened to his albums My World, My World 2.0, and his newest album Believe. His music consists of shitty love songs with terrible beats. For such a famous star, his music lacks absolutely no originality, innovation, and good lyrics. EVERY SONG IS ABOUT LOVE. It's a good subject and base for making a song, but its just so poorly executed and butchered, making his albums just a steaming pile of complete utter failure. Other shitty artists such as Nicki Minaj and Ludacris appear on his albums, somehow making it even worse.

Justin, looking straight and intelligent

3.Him in the Media: Everywhere you go, there is news and talk about Justin Bieber. You can't go through a single day without his name being mentioned. If you watch TV, such story's like him wearing a fake mustache to prove how masculine he is and how much he loves Selena Gomez. It's absolutely stupid. Even when you go to work or school, there is some person who will bring up his name. He is also a complete arrogant, cocky prick by doing such acts like beating up a 12 year old boyfor calling him gay(kudos to the kid who did it).

THERE IS NO HOPE FOR THIS WORLD. NO HOPE

4.Exploiting his image: Alright, so girls find him handsome and cream all over the thought of meeting him. However, haters just keep making statements that he is gay. Well they do have a point, because Justin released his own line of Nail Polish and Perfume, I shit you not. Why would he do that? I'm assuming he is exploiting his fanbase of disturbed fangirls too buy these. Why would he do this to cash in and make even more money? Isn't he one of the richest kids in Hollywood, so why is he being such a snobby brat and destroying their minds even more?(By the way, I knew someone who tried out the perfume. It smells like shit)

5.Fangirls: I mentioned this several times, but I can't stress how crazy these people are. His fanbase is 100% overly-attached fangirls and just girls who like his music. Every time you mention Justin Bieber and say he is "gay" or "sucks", a rabid fangirl will come and start typing in all caps with awful grammar about how "awesome" he is. If there was a popstar girl who was famous and good looking, I wouldn't go as far to send death threats to her boyfriend. If their happy together(which Justin and Selena are), why bother with them? Crazy bitches.

Justin, getting a blowjob from Usher

6.Hardcore Haters: That's right, some of his haters is why he sucks so much. Some go as far as to wasting their afternoons by mass-disliking his videos and spamming "JUSTIN BIEBER SUCKS" over and over on webpages. I mean, I don't blame them for hating them he really does suck, but doing this will just attract more attention and fangirls. This is going way overboard and shows how desperate they are. Hearing "Justin Bieber is a girl" over and over isn't funny at all, so knock it off.

These are probably the biggest reasons why people hate Justin so damn much. Thank you for having the time to read through this post. For all the haters, do not worry, he is just a fad that will die out soon like the Jonas Brothes and Miley Cyrus. As for the fangirls, please find better music to listen to and stop trying to get in his pants(if he got any).

Thank you.

Henry Homesweet:Pocket Monster EP Music Review

Category: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , By SirToasty

Hello and welcome to Filmore Jive! I'm Sir Toasty, and I am about to do my first music review on this blog. Were gonna talk about Chiptune artist Henry Homesweet!

About:

So Henry is this Electronic/Chiptune artist that started his career in England. Since 2005 he has been experimenting with old consoles and handhelds to make this raw waveform sound. This sound is known for its creativity in music as it works with the technical limitations of those past devices, which really makes the Chiptune genre unique. He's peformed at several parties all around the world.

Major Releases:

Pocket Monster EP-(2008)
Palm Trance-(2008)
Enter 5D-(2012)

Today I'm going to talk about Henry's first EP, Pocket Monster.

First Impressions:

Pocket Monster is obviously a reference to Pokemon, as its known as Pocket Monster in Japan. The cover is of 5 hearts, drawn kind of like the one's from Zelda. When I grew up I always thought human hearts looked like that, because its literally seen everywhere...Video Games, Cartoons, Valentines day, etc. But then I took human development and realized the ugly truth of what it REALLY heart looks like...

The Review:

The album consists of only 6 tracks, being 17:54 minutes long and 26.9 MB in size.

1.Jet Set Lets Go!(2:44)- Starts off with this chipmunk-like sound that I can't really understand. It then leads to this extremely happy fast paced beat, and the fastest paced song on the entire EP 9/10

2.Red Sky At Night(4:09)-The longest track on the EP. It consitss of this "Space-Like-Chiptune" sound and a few more chipmunk voices throughout. 9/10

3.Tragic But Magic(3:07)-Consists of this same beat that is heard throughout half of the song, and then it changes up and goes back to the same beat at the end. 8.5/10

4.Summer Smiles(2:10)- Starts off with this slow kind of sound, and then you can hear Mario sound effects such as coin, shooting fireballs, and going down the pipe. When you hear that sound, the song gets more louder and changes beat, but still pretty slow compared to the other songs. Around the end you hear this orchestra type sound. A very good happy song. 9.5/10

5.Laputa(3:36)-Isn't Laputa a fictional location that floats in the sky? The song is composed of these Japanese voices samples and several different Chiptune sounds high pitched overlapping each other. It's a bit more on the slower side. 8.8/10

6.Pocket Monster(2:10)-Pretty fast paced song, makes an excellent closing song to the EP. It consists of several Chiptune sounds that sound pretty complex, and then leads to the sound of rain dropping, just to get even louder and more intense. It then leads to this more slower sound and finished off with this dragon-like sound at the last second. 9.4/10

Conclusions:

Pocket Monster is happy and fast paced, and is one of the best Chiptune EP's out there. Being Henry Homesweet's first EP, this is a very solid work, and is good throughout. The pace in rhythm and the use of voice and game samples work well together, and the pace of how it goes from slow to happy is quite good. On top of that, ITS FREE TO DOWNLOAD! I'll leave the link below. People who love Chiptune will love this album.

Highlights:

4.Summer Smiles
6.Pocket Monster

FINAL SCORE: 9.03
